SeaPort Manatee
Jan Schneider appreciates the importance of SeaPort Manatee to Florida Congressional District 16 and beyond. The impact of the port is huge and growing, with record cargo activities in recent years.
Economic Impact
SeaPort Manatee is the nearest deepwater port to the expanded Panama Canal. Port Manatee moves more than 11 million tons of containerized, breakbulk, bulk, and project cargo and adds and generates more than $7.3 billion dollars annually in regional economic impact. It also supports more than 42,000 direct and indirect jobs.Moreover, it operates without any local tax support.
Federal Investment
SeaPort Manatee is benefitting from the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Bipartisan Infrastructure Law). In September 2022, the United States Department of Transportation announced that the federal government had awarded nearly $12 million to the Manatee County Port Authority from the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America Grant Program. The funds are being used to expand the capacity of the port’s container yard and to modernize infrastructure. In addition, SeaPort Manatee has over the years received well over $14 million for cybersecurity from the Port Security Grant Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and this does not exhaust its federal funding sources.
