Thank you for your contribution to Friends of Jan Schneider. Your contribution, in any amount, is much appreciated in support of shared concerns.
The issue of our times is healthcare, healthcare, healthcare.
The Florida 16th Congressional district is believed to be the second oldest in the country (in demographic terms). Jan will fight to preserve Medicare and Social Security as we know and love them. Nearly 10% of our residents are “dual eligibles” or otherwise critically dependent on Medicaid, and we also have close to 13,000 children who participate in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Jan has adamantly opposed Republican schemes to turn Medicaid into a block grant program and to play politics with CHIP funding. Also of critical importance is the fact that FL16 has one of the largest concentrations of veterans in the country. Jan will fight for those who fought for us, to improve and expand healthcare and health insurance for veterans and military families.
Jan is socially progressive but fiscally conservative. Concentration on health issues does not mean that she is any less committed to other progressive values and programs — and to finding ways to fund them without foisting vast new debt on our children and grandchildren. Please see the “Issues” section of this website for detailed positions on decline of the middle class and concentration of wealth in our country, creation of well-paying jobs at a living wage, climate change and environmental protection, reproductive choice, constitutional equality, dreamers, gun control, sale of our elections to the highest bidders, and other issues.
The U.S. is “US”. It is “we the people” — not we the top 1%, we the corporations or we entrenched establishment interests and groups. Thank you again for helping to restore representative democracy.
